With this project I set out to give a portrait of a region under economic and environmental duress. The mountains of West-Virginia and Kentucky, called Appalachiain the South East of the USA, only a two hour drive from Washington, are being robbed of their ecologically divers natural resources and human dignity by ways of stripmining coal. This traditionally poor region has been an easy target for corporate greed to feed an enormous energy appetite. These series all show various aspects of the environmental and human issues involved.
